Take Leave or Leave It

I always believe that in a year you should take atleast 1-2 big holidays and also few weekend trips. It gives you time to breath fresh air and get out of that monotonous life called ‘work’. But organisations in India, especially if it’s an Indian organisation, they will treat leave as Criminal offense. As if, we are the only one responsible for work and without us organisation – Can’t work.

I have worked in 4 – 5 organisation and everywhere I have faced the same problem. The senior and people at higher level feel that we are not dedicated towards our work because we take leave for ourselves. I mean, why being so judgmental? Leave, whether it’s paid or unpaid, it’s the right of every employee and everyone can decide when they want to take it or not. Why supervisor and their bosses think that we are breaking some rule by taking leave. If your boss is taking it, it’s ok as he/she worked so hard but you.. Nahhhh! It can’t be done!

In abroad, leave is a right of every employee. They don’t feel ashamed to ask for leave or even while taking it don’t think of the consequences. They just go on for a month or so and they also get paid for taking leave (I heard, I am not sure though!). The belief of living your life beyond office holds true abroad. It also motives and freshen the employee so that their focus level and enthusiasm increases. Now a day, it is important for an office to make sure that employee should enjoy work or just working for the organisation.

We Indian, when we take leave, we have to look at not just past, but also present and future. The implication of leave on boss and colleague. The clients, what will happen to them? Who will answer their queries. I read it somewhere that your importance in the office is realised only when you ask for a leave. So true it is! Earlier, no one will say that you are an important employee, but as soon as you ask for a leave, the company will inform you that they will not be able to function without you.

Alternatively, it is also comes to an individual, whether they will like to take the leave or just end up working till endless days and nights. My logic is simple, I will do the work, but I also need my leaves. My leaves are solely dedicated to my travel time and for that, I will take leave whenever possible. It is a refreshment for your mind and soul. Travel can give you deeper knowledge than 4 Walls around you.
Have an explorer’s mind and curiosity will grow reach!
