Easy to Give Up, Hard to Continue
Being in no target oriented job, I never realise what it means to achieve sales figure or target. A recent entry to sales make me realise that it’s is indeed a big achievement to get closer to your target. Being non sales person, I don’t take pressure of achieving target or getting prospective customers. I see people around me and I see people struggling hard to get prospects and business.
1 week went – no prospect, 2 weeks went – no prospect. 1 month went – no prospect. Suddenly we are hit with the fact that it’s not working. Am I doing something wrong? Am I not sounding good? Am I calling wrong people? We keep on wondering what is the thing which we are doing wrong that we can improve it and get prospective customers. We consult, we talk, we do research, we study, we do everything possible and still 1 week went – no prospect.
Nothing happens. No increase in numbers, no positive outcome.. This leads to conclusion that we are not good. We should give up. It’s not your cup of tea. But it is? Is it not your cup of tea or you have not given enough time. Doing good or getting prospects is more like process of making tea. Step by step. First boil water, than add tea and sugar, followed by milk and let it boil for sometime. If you take it out early than the tea will not get the flavour it needs.
I read a story of Chinese bamboo which talks about perseverance so beautifully. You plant a seed of Chinese bambo, water it, take care of it. 1 year pass, no tree. 2 year pass, no result. 4 year pass, no result. In 5th year you will see the bamboo tree growing faster day by day. 4 year the tree spent is strengthening it’s roots and once it’s started growing, it grew faster than other trees.
Our life is also like bamboo tree, we need to strengthen our roots before heading towards success. Many time it happens that we want success too early or within short span of time and when we don’t get it we get demotivated and devastated. Getting result is not easy or even faster. Patience and faith will lead you towards success. Books says that new business takes 3 years to reach break-even where company starts making profit, then why we in job we expect ourselves to do best in 1-2 months? Also how boss expect employee to succeed without understanding the business or job properly.
It’s ok to take time and proceed than proceed without doing any homework. You can’t swim in waters before learning the basic technique. Perseverance is key, Faith is your direction and positivism is your best friend. But all this start with BELIEVE.
Believe you can and jump.. Net will appear on it’s own!
