When I read Kane and Abel by Jeffrey Archer, I also saw this book but I didn’t get the chance to read it. But finally after such a long time I got the chance to read this book. Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less by Jeffrey Archer was his first novel. In the beginning I thought it might be related to some financial funda’s or term but it turned out to be very interesting novel.

Four men fall into the trap of stock market scam created by an expert in the financial scam name Harvey Metcalfe. Harvey Metcalfe, poor boy gets hold of some money and he converts the some into millions. He create a company and hires David Kessler, a Harvard MBA who talks about the company’s growth to the four prospects who buy the shares of the company to make quick profit. Unfortunately the company was created by Harvey to generate money by buying & selling the stock and in the end the four men are left with nothing but worthless shares of the company.
The four men are Stephen Bradley, an American professor at University of Oxford, Dr Robin Oakley, a Harley Street physician, Jean-Pierre Lamanns, a French art dealer with a gallery in London, and James Brigsley, heir to an earldom. All bought the shares of the company by using their saving and it results into no value for money. They decide to join together to get back at Harvey by recovering all their money, not a penny more & not a penny less.
Each person comes up with plan of there own to recover part of their money. Harvey goes for his annual trip to Europe & there they executive their plan of action one by one. What’s the plan? Who do what? Do they get caught? Does their plan succeed? How much money they recover? Answer to all this question are in the book so start reading.. 😛
I always like the way Jeffery Archer write the novel. The book is well written, exciting and easy read. In the beginning who might think that it will be story of poor boy’s journey towards millionaire. But the story builds up and leads to an amazing turn. It has flavor of a perfect robber’s story. It starts with small cheating to make few more dollars to big financial scams to 3 strategies to recover the money. What I like is the second half of the book. The surprises in the end, the turnout of the ideas and tiny twist in the plan are remarkable. The book is worth a read, it excites you more and bore you less.
My learning’s from the book,
Stock market is just like Life. When you think you are flying high it brings you back to the ground with force. But if your intentions are good, you will not reach the ground.
Unless and until you don’t settle your account, there will also be balance left either on debit side or credit side. Just like that, we need to settle our life account; else there will be balance left in the form of regret, pain left on either side.
