GAP – Generation And Perception

As I am reaching my mid 20’s, I
am experiencing a phase where I am in between 2 generation, above 30 and below
30. There was a time where I used to say its so old fashion, it is so not my
style and now I see people doing the same thing and I wonder, how can they do
that? There is also time where I see bunch of ladies talking I wonder to
myself, I am in wrong place.
An interesting incident happen
where I was in middle of 2 groups, above 30 and below 30 and discussion on both
the side was like earth and space. Above 30 was talking about kids, in laws, partner
whereas below 30 was talking about who is the hottest actress in Bollywood. I found
myself, my place in one of the group and that was definitely below 30. Phew, Relief!
What is this gap? Often said as
generation gap, I say it is not just generation. It is also the perception of
people towards life. For e.g. earlier smoking was mostly done by guys and now
girls do more smoking then guys. The perception of only guys can smoke has been
converted to anyone can smoke. Perception towards life has been changed over a
period of time. Now people don’t want secure job, they want to have their own
business and take risk. Now people want to achieve professionally first and
then start with family. Now people think of buying car first and not home. The thinking
has been moved forward to a new level.
A graduate before graduating
knows what he wants to do whereas people who are above 30 consider this as
immature decision. People above 30 will think that family is important and not
career. It is said that with responsibility comes the maturity but each
generation has their own maturity level. People below 30 will have
responsibility towards friends whereas people in their 30’s will have responsibility
towards their family. People above 30 will see bikini scene as shame whereas
people below 30 will see it as hot scene. People above 30 will drink
occasionally whereas people below 30 will create occasions to drink.

It is unstoppable yet
understandable. It is inevitable yet acceptable. It is gap because of
generation and perception and we all need to recognize it before we start
making our own assumptions. It doesn’t matter in which group you are until and
unless you know who you are. Our self confidence and attitude towards life
define are generation. If I love my family, I am not afraid or ashamed of talking
about it but at the same time, I need to know in front of whom I am talking
about it.

Your
talk defines your maturity and your attitude defines your generation.
