Reach for the star or adjust in the sky?
professional life, I started aiming for the universe. It is said that aim for
the stars, maybe you will end up being in the sky. But when we start working,
we not just aim for the stars, but we try and reach sun, the star which is
furthest from earth. There is no question that we all want to be successful, we
all want big salary package or we all want to be head of department or company.
We want something which can define our professional life. No one will say that I
am happy being manager, or happy working under CEO. To have this hunger, there
is nothing wrong in it but is it completely right also?
We
all don’t reach the top; if that was the case then everyone would be CEO or
Head of department. Only few reaches there, few hang in the middle and few
leave it in the hands of god. When I started my career, I wanted to be in
another industry and not in the industry I was working. When I got another job,
it was an industry I never planned to go in. after another switch I got the
industry I wanted to be in but profile was not I aimed for. Now when I am again
looking for something again, I am confused as where to go. When you want something, you don’t get it and what you don’t want, you
always get it. I am still getting calls for the industry I didn’t wanted to
be part or the profile which I never thought of taking. I am wondering, am I doing
right in rejecting those offers and still chase something I always wanted? Or take
the opportunity of something you didn’t thought of taking and excel in that.
we do, there is bound to be positive and negative. Professional satisfaction is like a hunger you get after eating regular
food. In simple words, after eating the same food again and again, you will
not feel satisfied and you will keep on feeling hungry or will need new food to
try. Once you try new food or dish, you will feel satisfied but after having it
again for a while, you will feel hungry or the want will take over. Hence that
ultimate satisfaction is like a dark tunnel. You will be walking chasing the
light just to find out that, you need to take another route.
arises that what we really want is the ultimate want or it is just a dream. Upon
achieving the stars will it be your proud moment or an unsatisfied hunger. Many
a times, this journey turns out to be a broken dream in reality. We need to
analyse our expertise, our knowledge and based on that we ought to be
practical. Without a graduation, I can’t expect company to make me a head. Without
achieving target, I can’t be promoted. Also we are not the only one running the race;
there are billions of people fighting for the same spot.
than chasing something which you might not get, why not use that same energy in
exceling in something you don’t think of taking. If you are not exceeding in
your field but you get opportunity to be top line manager of your past (in your
mind unwanted) field/industry, then why not try that. If I can’t get into auto
industry but I am getting an opportunity to be head of department in
hospitality industry then why not take that.
Just
because you aimed for stars doesn’t mean you say no to shuttle taking you to
another planet. You might want to direct your destiny to another point but
success and happiness is not guaranteed. We might define success in our mind,
but ultimate success is not what you think it is. Ultimate success is the
number of times you felt happy with your work and life. Industry or designation
doesn’t define it, but if you think designation is success than why restrict
yourself to a particular industry.
at the journey and what is best in it. Being in the sky is also being closest
to star compare to being nowhere near either of them.
